The 150th issue of the Ontario Planning Journal published by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute features an article I wrote about the Collingwood Urban Design Manual.
The article defines four noteworthy innovations of the UDM, specifically because they are scaleable and adaptable for use by other municipalities:
1) enactment of standards not guidelines through by-law;
2) integration of Universal Design and CPTED principles;
3) Natural Playground requirements (first in North America); and,
4) use of online tools for stakeholder engagement and project management.
